The idea of the lonely man dedicated to knowledge, which seems to suggest the superiority of reason over revelation, is perhaps the main subject of The Living son of the Vigilant. Although it is posible the mystical interpretation of this work, we are facing the original problem of Arabic philosophy: the relationship between faith and reason, between philosophy and revelation. Ibn Tufayl merely continues the solution given by his predecessors: there are two paths to the same end, two aspects of the same truth.
