Im Januar ist der Lockdown vorbei – das hoffen viele Deutsche. Aber möglicherweise geben die Zahlen Anfang kommenden Monats gar nicht preis, ob die Maßnahmen wirken.

In January the lockdown will be over - many Germans hope so. But the numbers at the beginning of next month may not reveal whether the measures are working.

Wann immer Menschen große Disziplin aufbringen müssen, hilft es ihnen, wenn die Mühen mit einem Ziel verknüpft sind. Ganz Deutschland hat sich jetzt ein solches Ziel gesetzt: Bis zum 10. Januar soll das Land den Corona-Lockdown durchhalten. Die Bürgerinnen und Bürger sollen zu Hause bleiben, auf ein großes Weihnachtsfest verzichten und auch Silvester im kleinen Kreis verbringen. Wenn alle genug Disziplin aufbringen und sich an die vereinbarten Regeln halten, ist im Anschluss wieder mehr Normalität möglich – so hieß es jedenfalls.

Whenever people have to exercise great discipline, it helps them when the effort is tied to a goal. The whole of Germany has now set itself such a goal: the country should hold out the corona lockdown until January 10th. The citizens should stay at home, avoid a big Christmas party and also spend New Year's Eve in a small group. If everyone has enough discipline and adheres to the agreed rules, then more normality is possible again - at least that's what they said.
