Géométrie des réseaux et marqueurs des territoires
The imprint left on the landscape by the irrigation network built up over the Middle Ages in the western Mediterranean basin not only bears witness to the new processes of land organisation accompanying the Arab-Islamic conquest, or the spread and qualitative evolution of water technology; it also tells us about water practices, and especially about those relating to sharing. By gaining a better understanding of the different forms that this can take, we are able to examine certain workings of the social organisation of the populations in which it came into being. This article is intended to provide a general idea of the potential gains offered by this approach, on the basis of some types recognised in al-Andalus and in the western Maghrib.
